Top Tips To Boost Your Immune System

If you’re looking to boost your overall health then there’s one superhero in your body ready to be called upon. With a combination of functions more important than Batman’s utility belt, the thymus gland is the most efficient gland in the body and important to communicate with when looking to boost your overall health.

As we know, the proper functioning of the immune system is paramount to achieving optimal health. The part that many people don’t realise though, is that at the core of this operation is the thymus.

To best describe the thymus and how it works, imagine yourself in a small, hard-working community. Each person in the community has a job. But it’s not any old job, it’s their dream job. So they’re really, really good at it.

First up are the teachers. Just like a classic school, there are various classrooms in the thymus. And one of the most important classes is where the thymus teaches the T-lymphocytes how to recognise self from non-self.

After this initial semester, the T-lymphocytes then move on to specialisations in a specific area. Some learn to be helpers while others end up on the opposite side of campus training to become killers. There are a whole host of other specialities being learnt. Courses are available as suppressors, messengers and a whole bunch more.

The community also houses a department of science where experiments are currently being carried out on borderline cells to decide whether or not they should be allowed to survive. The scientists then act accordingly with the results at hand.

Not to be forgotten is the library, where studies of non-self cells are catalogued and stored throughout the lifetime of the thymus. The thymus library is usually founded in the first trimester of gestation.

With a community of hard workers behind us, it’s important for us to do our part too. We’re the ecosystem where this town lives and keeping that ecosystem clean and safe helps keep the thymus and our immune system working more efficiently.

I’ve put together some exercises below to help you support your thymus. Implementing these will help boost your immune system and overall health.

In order to improve mobility and remove restrictions from the throat, neck and chest area, you can use these simple exercises each day.

1)

  • Sit towards the front of your chair
  • Make sure your sternum is stacked above your sacrum. (aka. keep your chest above your lower back)
  • Tighten your stomach muscles
  • Put your elbows to the side of your body, make a 90 degree angle with both elbow joints and position your palms face up
  • Keep your elbows touching your side and rotate your palms out to their maximum. (This will look similar to when you open a door and gesture someone through - just a little more robotic)
  • Bring your shoulder blades together as your palms move from directly in front of you to your sides and out to their maximum
  • Hold the move for 3 seconds at your maximum
  • Do this move 6 times in total

2)

  • Sit in the same position (towards the front of your chair)
  • Relax your shoulders
  • Gently rotate your head in a clockwise direction for six full turns
  • Reverse the direction for 6 more turns

 3)

  • Sit in the same position (towards the front of your chair)
  • Take a full breath in and as you exhale slowly lift your chin upwards as far as possible
  • Concentrate on lengthening your throat and neck while at the same time pushing your spine forward
  • While continuing to exhale tuck your chin into your chest
  • Bring your shoulders forward and push your lower back towards the back of the chair
  • Do this move 6 times in total
